FALL FOOTBALL 2017 - PRACTICE INFORMATION

Practices are held at the Rouse High School & Wiley Middle School Fields and start August 7th, 2017.
(Click here for directions to practice fields)

The first two weeks, daily practices run for 2 hours each weekday,
Monday through Friday as participants get in their required conditioning hours before they can wear equipment and tackle.

*All participants must meet the conditioning requirements before they are allowed to practice in full pads & helmet*

After conditioning, practices are three evenings a week (typically Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday).

PRACTICES CAN RUN UP TO 2 HOURS EACH. (DAYLIGHT & WEATHER PERMITTING)

KEYS TO SUCCESSFUL PRACTICE:
  1. HYDRATE, HYDRATE, HYDRATE
    • Hydration starts days before the 1st practice.
Non-Athletes should multiply their weight by 2/3 and drink AT LEAST that much water each day in ounces. EXAMPLE: A 60lb child, should drink 40 ounces of water.
Athletes should be drinking that PLUS 8 ounces for every 30 minutes of exercise. So a 60lb ATHLETE practicing 2 hours per day should be drinking 72 ounces a day!
    • Have athletes drink 16-20 ounces of that water within 2 hours of practice starting and the same amount after practice.
    • Getting headaches in the forehead / temple areas during practices or games is typically a sign that you didn't drink enough water!
  2. CHECK EQUIPMENT - the night before.
    • Is the mouthpiece in tact and still attached to the helmet?
    • Are all of the screws on the face guard and chin strap snaps still tight?
    • Are all of the hooks, snaps, straps, and strings in tact for the shoulder pads?
    • Practice Pants, Practice Jersey, Undershirt, Socks, Cleats and Water Bottle are clean and ready?
    • PARENT TIP: Have a designated place at home for all of the related equipment (instead of in the car). It's never fun when the child makes it in one car and all of the equipment was left in another.
  3. BE ON TIME - in full gear, ready to go at least 5 minutes before your scheduled start time!
    • Help us reduce the number of players who need help snapping their helmets by having your child stand in the mirror, put their helmet on, snap it, and check that it's secure. Then have them unsnap it, take it off, set it on the floor and repeat. Do this every day for 20 minutes until they have it down.
    • Starting on time helps us end on time. Handling equipment issues for 20 minutes probably means practice will run 20 minutes long.
  4. PRACTICE HARD WITH YOUR EYES UP!
    • You will play how you practice.
    • Always give 110%.
    • Even in a walk-through, you should be giving 110% mentally.
    • Heads Up Football means EXACTLY that. You should never be dropping your head or looking down. Look straight ahead!!!
